ricmar hounds est. 1969

I began my adventure into the wonderful world of show dogs, and particularly Afghan Hounds, as a young teenager in the late 1960's. I feel truly privileged to have seen, gone over, bred and /or professionally handled some of the truly great hounds (and to have known their owners/breeders) of what has proven to be a highly competivie and important era.
Several Afghans of that time stand out to me as being unsurpassed in their classice style, temperment, movement and depth of quality. Their important contribution to future generations is now a matter of record. I feel blessed to have witnessed it.
In the 90's I took a hiatus from showing and breeding dogs. I later turned my attention to breeding and showing Persian and Exotic Shorthair cats, enjoying several national/international Grand Champions and Best In Show winners.
Around 2004 I became facinated with a new breed of sighthound -Silken Windhounds. After much research in February of 2006 I acquired a lovely adult female from the breeds' founder, Franci Stull of Krystull Kennels. We antisipate our first Silken litter this spring!
And then in February of this year (2009), and after far too many years without an Afghan Hound in our home to love and show, my dear friends JoAnn and Wayne Jones of JoVan Afghans offered us a very special puppy from a very special litter. When I first saw "Jolt" at 13 weeks I was hooked, once again, by this breed that I have adored and been involved with in one way or another for over 35 years. Jolt is now 6 months old (pictured with me at 5 months) and getting ready to start his puppy show career.
I am an ordainded minister and currently Pastor a wonderful church in Austin, Texas where I live with my wife of 27 years, Terri, and our two great grown sons, Derick and Daniel. In January of 09, Daniel married Machell and so now we have a lovely daughter-in-law. Life is good!
